Huggies Pull-Ups

We have officially entered the wonderful stage of Potty Training! For real this time! Seriously, this time we’re not giving up! I have a new package of Huggies Pull-Ups, new selection of “potty-time” books, a new bag of treats, I’m ready!

Can you tell I’m excited?

Actually I really am excited; we have tried potty training for a little over a year now and I finally think we are really ready. I had a funny mommy moment not long ago when I was so excited that I shared a status on Facebook. Yep, you know you’re a mom when you share potty updates!

Potty training is usually a subject I avoid talking with friends about, after a while I grow tired of the looks and the off-hand comments I get. You know what I’m talking about, the “oh, she isn’t potty trained? My child was by two. Are you doing it right?” Yep, those awesome questions/statements that you hear over and over again. I believe a child will do things at their pace, when they are ready and that especially goes for my daughter. Although we have had her potty since she was two and we have gone potty numerous times, potty training was not something that was going well for her nor something that seemed to click with her. She loved going and sitting on her potty, she even went a few times, but it was more like a game for her.

I didn’t worry too much, I knew she would go when she was ready. Okay, who am I kidding. I worried, a lot, but only because I was trying to get her in preschool and no one would take her unless she was potty trained. When she started OT and we discovered she has SPD, I was told that it might be one of the reasons she’s a little behind. That it was just taking her a little longer to “get” it, that needing to go potty wasn’t really registering with her. As long as we mentioned going and took her, she went but she wasn’t realizing when she needed to go on her own. We would just keep working on it with her.

We wanted Abby’s potty training to be a fun experience and not let her get too overwhelmed. We wanted to encourage her, make a big deal out of her going potty and really get her excited about going potty like a big girl. Most of all, we wanted to make this new milestone as easy as possible for her. I imagine it can be pretty stressful for a little one and I see my little princess get so frustrated at times, getting frustrated and upset would only make her not want to potty train so I definitely wanted to avoid that.

To make potty training fun for Abby, we purchased big girl panties of her choice, bought fun potty training books, we cheer when she goes potty, she earns stars to earn a fun prize, I went with everything I could think of.

When I found out about Pull-Ups Celebrate the First Flush program I knew it was perfect for us! Not only will it provide me with tips and tools to help make potty training as smooth of a transition for Abby but it will also help make potty training a great experience for her.

I was beyond thrilled when I got the email informing me that I was chosen to be a Pull-Ups First Flush Ambassador! I just know this program is going to be what really kick starts potty training for us and possibly helps us get Abby in her super cute big girl panties once and for all! I especially like the Big Kid Academy on the Pull-Ups website, it is definitely helping to give me ideas. I love that not only is there lots of information for helping Abby but there is also parent support and even advice. I’m finding this extremely helpful. While visiting the Big Kid Academy, I found neat Progress Charts that are much nicer than the one I made and stands out more to Abby. I also discovered Character Calls! Oh my gosh, if this doesn’t encourage her I don’t know what will! To celebrate a flush, I can create a call from one of her favorite characters such as Minnie or Cinderella or even Mater! Between all these great tools plus the fun Disney character designs on her pull-ups, Abby is going to have a blast as we really focus on her potty training!

Preschool here we come this Fall!

I can’t wait to share our potty training journey with you! I’ll share updates on how potty training is going, what we do to encourage Abby and of course, share with you how she’s dealing with everything. You can even help us cheer her own if you like 🙂
